How to Successfully Implement an Integrated Management System

April 6, 2023 By

An employee performing a quality check at a food manufacturing company.

Do you have more than one management system in your plant? Would it save you time and money to combine your quality, environmental, safety, or other systems into one streamlined system?

There are many benefits to integrated management systems, including less duplication of efforts, fewer audits, better communication, and enhanced performance. However, taking multiple ISO systems or other 3rd-party certifications and combining them into one integrated system can be a complex task.

Set yourself up for success by following a series of integrated management system implementation steps and being disciplined with your approach. Olivia Pitts, quality project manager at the Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (GaMEP) at Georgia Tech, shares tips from her experience helping companies combine their systems in her article, “How to Successfully Implement an Integrated Management System,” published by Food Safety Tech.

Her key takeaways (which apply to all companies, not just food companies) include:

  • Develop a Communication Plan
  • Intentionally Select Team Members
  • Utilize Auditing Throughout Implementation
