Employee Spotlight: Bill Ritsch

For the past 20 years, Bill Ritsch has been a steady force at the Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (GaMEP) at Georgia Tech, building relationships, creating opportunities, and helping manufacturers across Georgia thrive.

Bill’s journey to GaMEP began with a move to Atlanta and a well-timed introduction. “I had worked with someone previously who was at Georgia Tech, and she connected me to GaMEP,” he recalls. “They were hiring, and in April 2005, I joined as a Tech Temp. By November, I was brought on full-time as a project manager focused on lean continuous improvement.” In 2011, Bill assumed his current role as North Metro Atlanta Region Manager, where he has continued making an impact by serving clients in his region.

While Bill’s background spans chemistry, business, and lean manufacturing, his true specialty lies in making meaningful connections. “I consider myself a jack of all trades,” he explains. “I know a little about a lot, and that helps me understand what someone needs and who can help them best.” His favorite quote, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one,” perfectly captures his approach to problem-solving and relationship-building.

His ability to connect isn’t just about being outgoing; it’s about listening, understanding, and building trust. “It takes more than just meeting people. You must understand their challenges and know who can really support them.”

Bill’s career is full of memorable moments, but one project from his early days as a project manager stands out in particular. Working with a watercraft manufacturer, he and his colleague, Tom Sammon, helped redesign the company’s material flow and layout. “They were expanding and planning on investing a lot of money on additional resources, but after studying their process, we proposed a different plan. We cut material movements by 50%, minimized waste, and helped them expand more efficiently.”

These days, one of Bill’s favorite parts of his role is facilitating GaMEP’s monthly CEO Roundtable events. “Some of our clients have been part of that group for six years. It’s incredibly rewarding to create a space where leaders can share challenges, celebrate wins, and learn from each other. And then the added bonus is that I get to help connect them to resources that can support their growth.”

Outside of work, Bill brings the same curiosity and hands-on spirit to his hobbies. He plays ice hockey, enjoys tinkering, and proudly calls himself a “novice DIY-er.” “I’m pretty good at getting home improvement projects 85–90% done,” he jokes.
